Dr Nidhi Nagabhatla is a sustainability science expert and a transdisciplinary research scholar. She has worked across several thematic domains that include: land and water resource assessment, management & planning, Remote Sensing –GIS, systems approach and climate change adaptation.
Education & Achievements:
Having completed her Master’s degree from Indian Council of Agriculture Research University, she joined Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) research institute-Indian Institute of Remote Sensing and completed her doctoral studies in 2005, while implementing a national level project ‘Biodiversity Characterization at Landscape Level-BCLL’ a joint initiative of Department of Space and Department of Science &Technology, Government of India. She also studied International Humanitarian Law study from National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR, India), given her deep interest in rights based approach to sustainable development. She was one of the 12 Scholars chosen for the Leadership and Innovation Program in 2011 by the Said Business School, Oxford University, United Kingdom.
Nidhi’s professional career sprawls various continents where she got the opportunity to associate with wide-ranging international institutions like: The Asia Pacific Climate Center (APCC) of the Asia Pacific the Economic Cooperation (APEC)-South Korea; The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the research institutes of CGIAR (The Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research) viz., The International Water Management Institute and The World Fish Center.
She served as a senior scientist and a research coordinator at Leibniz Universität in Germany handling a bilateral research initiative. Nidhi has lived and worked in the South Asia, South East Asia, Europe, North America & the South African region. She is currently engaged as an expert, advisor and mentor with various global initiatives via pro-bono consulting. viz., as the Chair of Steering Committee Board of for Young Professionals in Agricultural Development (YPARD)–an international network hosted at Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, Rome, Italy. At YPARD platform, she is actively engaged as a mentor.Nidhi, also serves as an expert with Commission of Ecosystem Management (CEM) of IUCN and with Tropical Agriculture Platform (TAP)- a G20 initiative; as a Knowledge and Data Task Force expert with The Intergovernmental science-policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).
