Devender Nahar

Devender brings with himself 16 years+ of results-proven experience in Strategic Planning & Execution, Marketing, Business Development, Corporate Governance and Energy Policy/reforms in the natural gas and energy industry. He is a Chevening Scholar from the 2013 CRISP cohort.

He works for India’s flagship gas utility GAIL (India) Limited, which is a State Enterprise with annual Turnover of over $9.7 Bn and 4000+ employees in India and overseas. Devender’s diverse areas of work include formulating Business Strategies, scouting new business opportunities, building strategic partnerships, gas marketing strategy and market development,formulating business plans, structuring and negotiating contracts, managing risks in big-ticket contracts, corporate governance and Sustainable Development transformation, City Gas Distribution for wider access to energy, enterprise innovation and process excellence, and Project Management.

Devender has hands-on experience of global advocacy and thought-leadership in shaping Asian gas cooperation, and domestic energy policy reforms. Through his company GAIL, Devender mooted the establishment of an Asian Gas Cooperation Forum and a Regional Pricing Index for LNG imported into Asia. Both these ideas have found strong support and action from various stakeholders at the pan-Asian level. He has presented papers at several national and international conferences.

Devender is an MBA from FMS, Delhi and Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from University of Delhi. He is passionate about establishing a centre of excellence in Sustainable Innovation in India focusing on energy innovation and green living. He also intends to drive clean energy partnerships for sustainable energy supply in cities and rural areas and to bring people face to face with climate and energy issues. In his personal capacity, Devender has designed and developed India’s first certified Carbon Footprint Calculator for enabling the wider society to ascertain/mitigate its climate impacts.
